Lip blush is one of those treatments that sounds almost too good to be true.
Waking up with softly defined, naturally coloured lips — no liner, no lipstick, no fading by lunchtime. Just a quiet confidence that your lips look polished and fresh, every single day.
It’s become one of the most requested treatments at SAB Studio in Bury St Edmunds, and honestly, it’s easy to understand why. When it’s done well, lip blush is genuinely life-changing in the most understated, effortless way.
But before you book, there are some important things to understand — about the process, the healing and what to realistically expect from your results.
What Is Lip Blush?
Lip blush is a form of cosmetic tattooing that places soft pigment into the lips to enhance their natural colour, improve symmetry and restore definition to the lip border.
Unlike traditional lip tattoos, modern lip blush is designed to look natural and sheer — a soft wash of colour that heals subtly and beautifully. The goal is never to look like you’re wearing lipstick. It’s to look like your lips, just more defined, more even and more you.
At SAB Studio, every lip blush treatment is completely bespoke. We assess your natural lip tone, skin undertone and lifestyle to select a pigment that will complement you perfectly — both immediately after treatment and once fully healed.
What Treatments Are Available?
Lip Line — from £295 A precise pigment placement along the outer lip border to restore shape and definition without adding colour through the full lip. Ideal for faded or uneven borders.
Lip Blush — from £350 A soft wash of colour designed to restore shape, refine symmetry and revive natural definition. Heals to a sheer, polished finish.
Ombre Lip — from £375 A blended gradient technique adding depth at the border and diffusing inward for a fuller, more dimensional result.
All treatments include a perfecting session at six to eight weeks once healed.
What Happens at Your Appointment?
Your lip blush appointment at SAB Studio begins with a thorough consultation. We’ll discuss your goals, assess your lip shape and skin tone, and select your pigment together before anything begins.
Once we’re both completely happy with the colour and shape plan, a topical numbing cream is applied to ensure you’re comfortable throughout. The treatment itself typically takes two to two and a half hours.
Every step is explained clearly as we go — there are no surprises.
Does Lip Blush Hurt?
Less than most people expect.
Lips are a sensitive area but with proper numbing, the sensation is typically described as mild pressure or tingling rather than pain. Most clients are pleasantly surprised by how manageable the experience is.
If you’re prone to cold sores, it’s important to speak to your GP or pharmacist before booking and follow any recommended preventative treatment protocol in advance of your appointment.
What Is the Healing Process Like?
This is the part people don’t always realise — and it’s important to understand before you book.
Immediately after treatment your lips will look bold, bright and more intense than your intended result. This is completely normal.
Over the following days:
Days 1–2: Colour appears bold and lips may feel slightly tender or swollen. Days 3–7: Flaking and peeling begins — this is part of the healing process. Do not pick. Days 8–14: Colour looks lighter and may appear patchy or ashy — this is normal. Weeks 3–4: True colour begins to settle back in. Weeks 6–8: Perfecting session to refine shape and colour.
Results typically last 1–3 years depending on your skin type, lifestyle and sun exposure.
Aftercare — What You Need to Do
Following your aftercare instructions carefully directly impacts the longevity and quality of your results.
In the first 7–10 days:
- Keep lips lightly moisturised with the balm provided
- Avoid spicy, salty or acidic foods for 48 hours
- Sip drinks through a straw for the first 2–3 days
- Avoid saunas, steam rooms and swimming
- Do not pick or peel flaking skin
- Avoid sun exposure and always use SPF on lips once healed
Am I Suitable for Lip Blush?
Most people are suitable for lip blush. During your consultation we’ll discuss your medical history and any factors that may affect eligibility.
Lip blush may not be suitable if you:
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Have certain autoimmune conditions
- Are on blood thinners or specific medications
- Have active cold sores at the time of treatment
All suitability is assessed individually and thoroughly before any treatment begins.
